Clear My Debts
- Here at the free help with debt helpline we have many callers each day who ask us to “clear my debts”. The good news is that we can. No matter how debts have arisen, it should always be possible to find the appropriate solution to clear them.
Many of our callers have credit card debt, but the amounts that they owe on that debt varies widely, from as little as £1000 to as much as £230,000 in one instance.
For those that owe relatively small amounts that they may struggle to pay, there is the debt management plan solution. This is an informal arrangement whereby the debtor agrees to make a payment of what he can afford each month. This sum is calculated by deducting everyday expenditure from income. This leave s a figure called disposable income. It is this sum that is offered to al the creditors to be split between them. If it is proposed by a debt management company there is often the case that the creditors will also agree to suspend interest and charges for as long as payments are maintained. This means that debts can be cleared after a time.
Another way to clear debt is to enter an IVA which is usually a 60 month arrangement to pay what you can afford. Creditors usually expect more than £200 per month, and a significant dividend. If you complete the arrangement terms, any monies still owed at the end of the IVA are then written off.
A further way to clear debt completely is via bankruptcy. Very many people with significant debt and nothing in the way of assets are now seeking to clear their debts in this way. It is a very effective once and for all solution.
