Expectations for the new Car Owner
I remember the first time I went out to buy my first car with my father. When I found the one I liked he said to me, “boy, don’t expect to have as much money in your pocket after you buy this.” Boy was’nt he right. Ever since my first car purchase I have seen nothing but expenses come with the luxury of owning my own car. Insurance alone is a slap to the face and then there are the expense of gas, oil changes, small repairs and the list goes on and it never ends.
Car Issues Continue
Now I am pushing 30 years old with a family of five. I now have two vehicles in the carport which means, you guessed it, twice the expenses. Last week I had both of my cars break down on us. Talk about some bad luck. The first is just too old to go on and the engines shot nearing 200,000 miles on the engine. The second one, a Jeep Cherokee, needed a raditator replacement. After changing out the radiator, about a week later the starter went out. $125 later we’re back on the road with one car working and one car collecting dust in the driveway. Come to think about it, the Jeep’s about due for an oil change.
Auto Insurance
Auto insurance seems to always be a pain whether your 18 years old with high rates or 30 years old with two cars and a homeowners policy to pay for. I remember when I was younger, after looking at my insurance premiums I would say to myself, “I can’t wait till I’m a little older so my rates could go down. If you’re a younger driver reading this you probably feel the same way. Let me tell you, life only gets more expensive down the road.
Life’s Expenses, at the age of:
Age 18-24 You will see high auto insurance rates
Age 24-30 Begin to experience the high costs associated with starting a family
Age 30-40 Paying for your own Childs education and/or new auto expenses
Age 40-50 Helping your child’s/young adults with starting a new family
50+ Higher Health Insurance Costs
The high cost of living only increases with time.
