Understand The Different Coverages Under Motor Insurance!
A liability coverage is the most popular coverage that drivers opt for. It offers compensation against any damage to property or person as a result of an automobile accident that was your fault. Other motor insurance coverage includes medical coverage, bodily injury, collision coverage, property or rental coverage. It is mandatory in some countries to have an auto insurance soon after the purchase of a new car. This is evident in United States. United States has a law that states that car insurance coverage is compulsory for all car owners.
One must have a main coverage that is a liability coverage. Based on the value of your car and the investment you have made on it, you should decide to have the other add on options. Decide on right main coverage for you based on your budget and the price of your car. The insurance company will only cover your car but also another pedestrian or a driver if the fault was yours (who is an insured person).
Main type of coverage available is:
Liability insurance – This insurance covers any property damage such as buildings, homes, businesses, other’s vehicle, utility poles, fences or any other structure your vehicle comes into contact with. Such cover will include you as well as another person who is driving your car with your permission. It also includes medical expenses, lost wages any pain or suffering inflicted up on another person due to your fault. Any litigation cost will also be covered.
Comprehensive insurance provides protection against theft of your car, vandalism, damage caused due to fire, flood or any other natural calamity. It can also cover you if you are in an accident with an uninsured driver.
Collision coverage: This covers the repair or replacement cost of your car in case your car is damaged in a collision which may be your fault or other’s fault.
In addition to this there are other add on coverage such as Medical/Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage to choose from. It is good to know what your State requires out of an insurance. Know your State’s required minimum and make sure you meet those. It is recommended you establish policy limits above the minimum required. Don’t be under insured, you will find it difficult to pay for any costly compensation in case you were at fault in an accident. Understand your car requirements and then decide on the right type of coverage for you.
